With the economic crisis at peak these days, you read every day people getting fired from jobs, fresh grads not finding the job of their dreams. Even in this chaos with the whole world going virtual there are jobs like graphics designers which are high-in demand even in days of global economic distress. Since graphics designers help in branding a company and help in creating a web presence, they are high in demand and usually the jobs with such responsibilities are highly paid. For graphic design Sheffield, you can find many companies advertising graphics designs services and jobs.

The question to ponder is what types of skills do you need as a graphics designer to be hired for a company? You can start by going to a graphics designer school or doing a course. In the world of today, it may not be necessary to have a proper degree as you can find a vast amount of resources on teaching yourself on your own.

Having a proper degree grooms you and provides you insight which can only be learned from a teacher. It also helps in you in learning the theory, how users perceive colors and the importance of right type of branding.

If you want to be a good graphics designer, stay up to date with the latest research and tools used in improving graphics design. If you do not read latest researches and are not aware of using the latest tools, then you cannot stay in the business for long. Also, reading research will let you create great designs and use all the “in” things while creating your design.

A graphics designer needs a lot of perception and ability to create design on his own. These days several graphics designers are advertising themselves online by creating portfolio websites and adding the projects that they have done. It is a great way to market yourself and present yourself when you go for an interview.

A lot of graphics designers are working from home and earning money from home using internet.

So, if you don’t get a job, you don’t need to despair because there are a lot of websites offering home based jobs including graphics design. There are also a lot of internet scams who hire a designer, get the required work out of them and then don’t pay them. So be careful while searching for a job online.

In terms of graphic design in Sheffield, you can find some really good positions if you are looking for a job in these days of economic crisis. The best idea is to have and advertise the skills that you have as a graphics designer as widely as possible. It is very important to have an online portfolio but whichever area you find a job in, graphics designers need the eye for observing and creating eye catching websites, brochures, advertisements and if you have skills as an SEO expert and incorporate it into your design, you probably would be the first choice candidate for any company.

A Copywriter Helps Your Internet Business Get On The Fast Track

A whole new industry has emerged as internet businesses become hungrier for new material for their websites and this industry is web copywriting services. As searchers become more savvy to using the search engines for finding local goods and services business owners also are becoming increasingly aware of need for content writers capable of both understanding the business sales message, and understanding what text will be most effective to gain good web rankings.

Seo copywriting professionals supply a specialised knowledge that is unique to the Internet. Seo Copywriting is not simply about writing professional website content, but the copywriter also needs to get into the minds of the target market and understand the types of search words and phrases that a potential customer may be using to search for particular goods and services.

Have a good look at your own website and ask yourself an honest question, is your web copy only speaking to knowledgeable experts or is it using language that customers will be looking for. Just because you understand what is written on your website don’t make the same mistakes as thousands of other websites do and assume your web copy is appealing!

Hiring a copywriting professional to work with on your website with you is often a recipe for success and has been proven to improve website rankings and capturing new customers for your business.

Initial SEO consultancy and website planning are highly important aspects that combine to affect both your web design and your websites chance of a good placement in the search engines.

Without any fear of contradiction the best time to optimise your website and define the requirements of your web marketing strategy is prior to the launch of your new website.

This ensure that your website gives the best first message to the search engines about the services and offerings that your business provides, and in addition to this it also ensures that your web site is indexed correctly for the search terms your customers are actually using.

Initial SEO consultancy and web strategy planning will enable your web designer to accurately define the content and navigation structure that will be essential to ensure success for your website from both an initial on page search engine optimisation perspective and also for your web marketing gong forward.

Pre-web design SEO should include at a minimum

Initial Consultancy to establish the success criteria for your site and other business aspects for example:

Research including a competitive analysis of any web based competition, defining a content and growth strategy and keyword research.

Defining a web marketing strategy in order to maximise the success of your website in the shortest possible time frame.

Of course web marketing planning and initial website optimisation can always be left until a later period, but you do need to be aware that without it you are holding back the potential of your website from the day it goes lives.

If your web design company offers SEO consultancy as part of their services try and view it as “best advice” and possibly the most important ingredient to your websites initial and later success.

In reality though, the development process to have the best outcome should be a collaborative partnership between the design company and the business due to many factors. Also the larger the business and the more departments the greater the collaboration should be as in most cases each departments “presence” on the website will have different goals and it is only right and proper that the website represent the business as a whole.

Here’s a great article that sums thing up nicely from Davo Judge

Get The Website Design You Want By Communicating Your Needs

Get The Website Design You Want By Communicating Your Needs Expecting a web design company to come up with a stunning website for you without much input is foolhardy. The fact is, if you want to get the most out of the site that is designed for you, you need to do your own part as well.
Having some concrete ideas about what you expect can help enormously.

Having a vision of the end result -

When you approach a design firm to build your site, you should have a clear vision of what you want. The more details you give, the better the project will be. This means three things. First, do some research and find web sites that you believe are both visually appealing and functional. Share these sites with your design firm.
Secondly, give them as much information as you can about your target audience.

A professional web design firm will be able to take this information and produce a product that looks good visually and meets your target audience’s needs. The third thing is a site map. This is an outline of the content that you need to have in your Web site.

Assistance is always available -

The domain name of your site needs to be chosen by you.
Your design firm can certainly assist you with direction, but when it comes right down to it, the final decision is yours. The same can be said of proofing and copyediting. A good design firm should have this service available, but ultimately, what goes out on your web site is your responsibility.

Considering logos and graphics for your new site -

New graphics and logos are also different matters. If your company does not currently have a logo, then the process of acquiring one will have to become a separate project to the web build. In the event you require additional design of logos and images, be prepared that this generally is a separate project and additional fees will apply.

Content for your new website -

As the business owner, you know your business better than anyone. For this reason alone you are the best person at making the decision of what content and forms need to be placed on your Web site. Secondly, you will need to consider whether updating the site’s content is something that you would like the web firm to complete on your behalf, or whether this is a task that will be completed in-house.

If you are considering an eCommerce design for your new site, then you will also need to let your web company know what secure processes, such as a shopping cart system or transactions to a secure server or PayPal, need to be implemented into the site. You should also provide photos and copy; however, the design firm can also assist you in providing copy and sourcing photos, if necessary. One thing to be aware of is that you must have an authority to use photos on your website. These can simply be purchased online at a low cost.

The development of your new site -

Once your design firm has this information, they can begin.
They should provide a brief and a mock-up of the overall design of the site. As the client, you can either approve or reject these ideas, but keep this in mind: once you’ve approved the brief and chosen a design, any changes to the design or overall Web site will incur extra fees.

Moving forward -

When your web firm begins working with you, their account manager can help you with a lot of these processes.
However, much of what needs to be provided for the web site is your responsibility. You should also be aware of what is not provided with the web site such as monthly hosting. If the hosting of your website is handled by the web company, it will be billed separately, think of it as a monthly service fee you pay for the use of your mobile phone. The web site is like the phone; the hosting is like the service plan. Both are necessary, but separately priced.

If you go into the site development process knowing what is needed and what your part is, it will result in a great product that makes both you and your customers very happy.

—————————————————-
Many people think eCommerce design is something a company can handle for them 100%. The them at The team at WKWD (http://www.wkwd.com.au/ ) believe that the truth is, even the most experienced professional web design agency requires input from their customers in order to arrive at an acceptable solution.

Every product and service that’s out there today needs some kind of advertising. It doesn’t matter how good your widget is and how many years you’ve put into its research and development, if no one knows that it’s on the market then you simply won’t sell many or any for that matter.

Ultimately you will need a marketing plan strategy and some of the most successful plans recently have adopted this kind of brand development.

Corporate branding is where a firm will use their company name as a brand name to further create a business identity in the public eye. One example of this technique is the work that’s done in advertising by companies like IBM and Disney.

From the outset it’s essential that you have a plan to develop this strategy and these types of branding strategies generally have four components that make up the plan as a whole.

Identify Your Target Market

Before you can properly use the corporate branding method you need to identify who you’re trying to sell these goods or services too. Especially in the world of Internet business where the audience for your marketing is vast, business owners make the initial mistake of casting the net too wide. It’s essential that your primary target customer is identified. If you’re trying to sell hip hop shirts, you don’t want to target a demographic that prefers classical music.

Know The Competition

After that you’ll need to have a good look at the competition in your market. An important part of brand development is having a unique approach that’s different from your competition. You need to study what the other people in your industry are doing so that you can have a distinct public image. A big part of corporate branding is staying away from anything hackneyed that the industry you’re in has tried before.

Establish the Right Mix

You need to have a good look at you product/service mix as well. This will include the four basics of this feature.

Price

Presentation

Place

Promotion

Create a Unique Selling Proposition

Finally you need to create a unique selling proposition (USP). As the name suggests, this needs to be an element that will be distinct from all the competition’s claims. When you’ve fused these elements together, you’ll be able to see the direction that your corporate branding should take.

Remember here that the entire corporate branding process is all about the methods that you use to forge a unique identity. Especially in the world of Internet business, you need to be sure that the voice of your business gets heard above the din that is competition on the web and that’s the reason that you need to be sure that you carefully work through the process.

What you come out with on the other side of the corporate branding process needs to be not only a solid representation of what your company can provide, but how they can accomplish that goal in a manner that’s different from the competition. Equally you need to ensure that your brand identity flows through and is recognizable in your web design, the graphic design of your corporate documentation and of course product packaging.

Ain’t life strange? Why is it sometimes despite the fact that you are trying to give your customer best advice they simply will not listen, or think you are perhaps trying to stretch the budget and get them to spend more. Website optimisation and search engine marketing are typical of this problem.

The SEO guys give us a bashing claiming that we don’t always act in the best interests of clients and we should be pushing their services more, and often when you offer up sound advice to your clients many ignore it and seem to think that if you build it they will come (great film and a Costner classic).

Its little wonder that many web design firms don’t even begin to discuss the critical aspects of search engine friendly design or on going website marketing but the reality of it is every company should be doing it. But therein in lies a problem, if everybody was doing it how would you get everyone on the first page of Google?

So I guess that best practice and sound economics will come into play. Always advise the client of the importance of this aspect of web design but if they are clearly not interested back off and concentrate on winning the graphic design or website design business.

What’s your view?

The wonderful thing about the internet and the World Wide Web is the sheer diversity of resources that you can find but only if you know where to look. Some businesses hate the freedom of information that the internet brings especially those that earn a living on the back of that old saying “the money is in the mystery”.

Now days if you have the time and the patience to go hunting (and you know what you are looking for which always helps) you can pretty much find just about anything (We’ve included a few in our resource section on the right)

The web is also useful to get the creative juices flowing, client can scour around finding designs and schemes that they find appealing and would like to incorporate into their corporate brochures or website, but equally the web can be a rich source of inspiration for many design professionals as well.

We are not talking about blatant copies or derivatives of other peoples work because we all know that is illegal. What I’m talking about is finding those seeds that send your creative thoughts down a track that perhaps you had not explored before.

Ideas for creative designs are all around us and it would be very interesting to find out what gets your juices flowing or where you find inspiration when you just can’t seem to come up with the right idea.

Feel free to leave a comment about what works for you or examples of inspiring design.

Is choosing the right colour for your website important or should you just go with something that appeals to the boss?

Choosing the right colour scheme for your website or for your corporate brand identity is far more important than a lot of people realise. We all have our favourite colours and while some people prefer strong vibrant colour schemes others prefer more subtle pastel shades but the point not to be missed here is your corporate image should not be about the colours schemes you like best because your not buying your own products or services.

Different colours appeal to different market sectors and while one colour may induce a warm buying feeling for your potential customer choosing the wrong one could leave you with lots of visitors but no sales, so getting this balance right for your market demographic is highly important, and one that is often missed by companies creating there own branding in-house.

What’s the best (or worse) colour scheme you have seen on a website? If you would like to share leave a comment.

What’s the single most important aspect of web design, aesthetics or SEO? This is a question that will raise a lively debate but the answer you give will be heavily weighed by the job you do.

A graphic designer who specialises in visual design will suggest in many of cases that the website design is by far and away most important of course. And let’s be honest without that visually appealing to the eye design a searcher will leave your site within the blink of an eye or so they have you think. But then that raises the big question of how did they find your site in the first instance?

The basic web design criteria or curve goes along the lines of initial design is presented ..website design looks excellent and is given the go ahead. We need some content ok, we’ll rustle something up…..website goes live and time passes but no visitors!

And then even more time passes by until eventually perhaps months and sometimes years later the situation is either so dire or the company are having to invest in adwords that finally website promotion firm gets called in (or somebody gets intrigued by one of those SEO e-mails that seem to hound webmasters these days), and before you know it you are on a 6 month search engine marketing campaign to try and achieve some search engine results.

Is this the fast road to success? The thousands of website owners that have followed this exact or similar path will certainly argue that it most definitely is not as this hope for the best web development criteria delays any websites success by unacceptable periods of time, and even more frightening results in thousands in lost profit, turnover and ongoing prospect capture.

In reality the search engines paid no heed to the visual aspects of web design but with minimal attention to search engine optimisation so often this first opportunity to make an impact when the web site first gets indexed is totally lost, if all the search engines find is a poorly optimised site with no regard paid to any SEM requirements or keyword capture.

Extra time and money spent on pre development SEO ,for example keyword research and optimisation gives an outstanding return on investment as invariably when the site goes live and gets indexed it will achieve a far better search engine position from the outset and it has been known for pre-optimised websites to hit a page one result straight away.

What’s your view???
